Repertoire

The team has a repertoire of 8 numbers each with it’s own set of costumes. In addition, four numbers have been produced featuring small groups of team members specially choreographed for competition and training new recruits.

The team have appeared at many rinks up and down the country, from Basingstoke in the South, to Sobel in Scotland. Also they have made trips to Belgium.

They have also appeared at the British Short Track Speed Skating Championships.

Team Numbers :

Sing, Sing, Swing

Sing, Sing, Swing was the first number that the Ice Twirlers ever performed and has proved to be an ever popular number. The music is 1940’s big band style featuring Glen Miller and Benny Goodman and both the skating and twirling talents of the team are exhibited.

Conga

Conga is the second number in the Ice Twirlers Repertoire and was first performed in 1999. It has been performed in many parts of the UK and also in Belgium. The number is based on the Gloria Estephan song of the same name and was produced and choreographed by John Holden with more than a little help from Elizabeth Holden. The number features very intricate footwork for the skaters and represents a most advanced routine for amateur skaters.

Lord of the Dance

Lord of the Dance is, of course, based on the Michael Flatley show of the same name and as the third number in the Ice Twirlers Repertoire represented the most ambitious number to date. As with the stage show, there is a great deal of intricate footwork involved for the skaters, literally keeping them on their toes.

Christmas Tree

As the name suggests, this is a festive number which was especially produced for a Christmas Gala at the Blackpool Arena in aid of the Windmill Nurse Appeal Fund. The number features a melody of different Christmas tunes including Jingle Bells, Auld Lang Syne, and, of course, Christmas Tree.

This number has also been performed on a temporary open air rink.

Diamonds

Diamonds is a routine based on music from the film Moulin Rouge. Whilst the music is the same, we have put our own interpretation to it. This is one of our shorter routines but it is full of vitality and sure to be enjoyed by all.

Shadowlands

Shadowlands is based on part of the story of The Lion King and includes music from both the stage and screen versions. The number is a departure from the Ice Twirlers type of routine as the first one they have done as a full team without batons. The choreography was by Elizabeth Holden and produced by John Holden. Grace, flow and interpretation of the music are the hallmarks of this routine.

Victory

This number is designed purely to demonstrate the art of baton twirling on ice to music and features the majority of baton twirling techniques the girls are trained in.

In addition to the full team numbers, several non twirling routines have been produced either for competition purposes or training. These usually feature between three and six team members.

Evita

This number featured five senior skaters from the team and, as a departure from baton twirling, use was made of capes to interpret the music. The routine was devised for the senior members of the team to enter a show competition in the Blackpool Opens.

Circle of Life

This again is based on The Lion King and indeed forms the basis for Shadowlands. The number features three team members and again this number was devised for team members to enter a show competition in the Blackpool Opens.

Dreamcatchers

Although the Dreamcatchers routine was devised in April 2000 for a specific competition in the Blackpool Opens, it has been used on several occasions since and has proved to be popular with skaters and audiences alike.

TLa Nuba

The music for this number is taken from the "Cirque de Soliel'" show La Nuba. It is a very artistic number and focusing far more on the skating than the other numbers. Many patterns and formations are performed. The costumes are  pale blue, and the number presents a very soft and gentle feel..
