2009 Charity Gala a Sellout Success -- order your DVD HERE
2007 has proved to be an even busier year than 2006. After the success at the open air rinks, John decided to produce a new number specifically for use on small rinks which could be skated by any combination of team members from six upwards and is based on the “Caspa Slide”. This has proved to be very useful as we have skated at twice as many temporary rinks this year.
The Blackpool Ice Dance Club 50 th Anniversary Gala was a tremendous success with the Blackpool Ice Arena 95% full. There was a great atmosphere with skating from the youngest to the oldest delighting the audience. Many thanks to our star dance couple, Louise Waldron and Owen Edwards, for their number especially choreographed for the Gala.
2007 saw the Twirlers again invited to appear at open air rinks during the period leading up to Christmas.
Halloween Event at Prestatyn - 31 st October
This was the first time we had been asked to skate on plastic ice and several trips to Southport were made to gain experience on plastic at the factory where it is produced. This proved well worthwhile.
There was an unbelievable turn out for this evening event which included a bonfire, fireworks, children’s rides and the outdoor ice rink, The team performed two numbers, Cha Cha Slide and Invisible Man.
Christmas Rink Opening at Gloucester – 17th November
This was the furthest we have travelled to skate on a temporary rink. We were invited to open the rink with Mark Lester who played “Oliver” in the film of that name. He cut the ribbon and the team then went on to the ice in a volley of fireworks ! The team skated their Christmas Tree number and Cha Cha Slide.
Gloucester Council have asked us to keep in touch for next year.
Christmas Tree Switch On at Halifax – 24th November
Our return to Halifax proved to be a success. This time we were able to perform three numbers : Christmas Tree, Diamonds, and Cha Cha Slide. These were skated in two slots during the day. Our hosts – Halifax Council – were delighted with the performances and hope to have us back in 2008.
Piccadilly on Ice, Manchester – 18th December
This, our final event of the year, again proved to be a success even though the team had to change into costume on the coach in a traffic jam in Oxford Road. Again, the team skated twice during the evening, in the first performance they performed three numbers consecutively : Christmas Tree, Cha Cha Slide and Diamonds. In the second performance the team skated Shadowlands for the first time on a temporary rink. All went down well with the team being featured in the Manchester Evening News. Subject to budgets etc. Manchester hope to invite us back in 2008.
Again, the next year would seem to be even busier than 2007. We have strong prospects of appearing at even more temporary rinks around the country, time permitting. Also 2008 marks the 10 th Anniversary of the team so we hope, at some time this year, to hold a Gala celebrating this fact.
